I was able to screen The Garfield Movie Parents Guide in order to write this The Garfield Movie Parents Guide Parents Guide. All opinions are my own.

I grew up as a fan of the OG Garfield of the 80’s and 90’s. So I wasn’t sure what to expect of this movie. I will be honest – it was cute and fun but TOTALLY geared towards kids ages 0-12. There wasn’t much in it for older kids or adults. All that being said – I did enjoy the movie. It was funny and had a good theme that family is important. It was really clean – no profanity, no sexual content (except for one silly part at the end which is stated below) and typical Garfield behavior.

This is a great family movie that I can see kids watching over and over because its fun and cute with a lot of action and craziness. This is one the whole family (ALL ages) can enjoy together.

The Garfield Movie is rated PG for action/peril and mild thematic elements. It runs for 1hr 41m.

There are no end-credit scenes for The Garfield Movie. It shows several pictures (comic strip style) during part of the credits role. There is a funny little comic strip blurb at the very end with the OG Garfield – but not really worth hanging around for.

Sex & Nudity – 0/5 – The only thing that could be put into this category is at the end of the movie where two cows (a cow and a bull) are seeing each other again for the first time in a long time. The song “Let’s Get it On” starts playing and then they make some come hither faces, and she pounces on him – tackling him off-screen and there are some sounds before it cuts back to the other characters. A little silly for some, a little uncomfortable for some.

Violence & Gore – 2/5 – There is quite a bit of animated violence. Fighting, being thrown onto and from trains, a giant chopping knife (clipping a tail), stunts, and more. Nothing graphic or overly crazy. It does show Garfield hitting his head on a tree – it could be taken as self-harm, but overall just silly because he’s irritated with the situation.

Profanity – 0/5 – Not even a G word.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 0/5 – Shows a cat drinking a glass of milk, but going through the motions of the wine-tasting process. It’s a “if you know you know” type of thing.

Frightening & Intense Scenes – Some chase scenes and other scenarios where it’s a little intense, but is quickly resolved or ends with a comedic reaction.

The Garfield Movie is really perfect for families. Especially for younger viewers. It is CLEAN! with no agenda and has a fun story line that everyone can enjoy.
