The Fourth of July is a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family. I love making desserts and salad with our BBQ, so that is what I wanted to share today. With the Fourth of July coming up fast, this weekend is the perfect time to make your game plan so you can prep some festive dishes for your meal. It doesn’t matter if it’s for 1 or 20, these red, white, and blue recipes are simple, colorful, and great for barbecues, potlucks, or family celebrations. Each recipe is easy to make and uses ingredients you may already have on hand.

Red, White, and Blue Recipes

Patriotic Berry Burst Cookies

Soft, chewy cookies loaded with white chocolate, dried berries, and a hint of vanilla. They bake beautifully and stay soft for days.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups all‑purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup dried blueberries
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat butter and both sugars until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  4. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined. Fold in white chocolate, blueberries, and cranberries.
  5. Scoop dough into balls and place 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly.
  6. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on a rack.

Fourth of July Berry Shortcake Bars

A simple sheet‑cake style dessert topped with whipped cream and fresh berries arranged like a flag.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
  • 1 container whipped topping
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 2 pints strawberries, sliced

Directions:

  1. Bake cake in a 9×13 pan according to package directions. Cool completely.
  2. Spread whipped topping over the cake.
  3. Arrange blueberries in the upper corner and sliced strawberries in rows to create a flag pattern.
  4. Chill until serving.

Red, White, and Blue Fresh Fruit Medley

A refreshing fruit salad lightly sweetened with lemon and honey.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint strawberries, quartered
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 bananas, sliced

Directions:

  1. Combine strawberries and blueberries in a bowl. Drizzle with honey and lemon juice. Chill 20–30 minutes.
  2. Add sliced bananas just before serving and toss gently.

Firecracker Pasta Salad

A colorful pasta salad with fresh vegetables, mozzarella, and a creamy, tangy dressing.

Dressing Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon honey mustard
  • Pinch of cayenne (optional)

Salad Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cooked penne pasta
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped red pepper
  • 4 ounces mozzarella, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan

Directions:

  1. Whisk dressing ingredients together.
  2. Combine pasta, tomatoes, cauliflower, onions, red pepper, mozzarella, and Parmesan in a large bowl.
  3. Add dressing and toss to coat. Chill at least 1 hour.

All‑American Garlic Basil Burgers

Juicy burgers seasoned with garlic, basil, and olive oil — simple and perfect for grilling.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 4 hamburger buns

Directions:

  1. Preheat grill to medium‑high.
  2. Mix beef, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and basil. Form into four patties.
  3. Grill 3–5 minutes per side or until cooked to 160°F.
  4. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.
