I wrote this Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War Parents Guide. All opinions are my own.

The Jack Ryan Ghost War movie is exactly what I wanted from this series. It kept all the original actors/actresses, so it flowed seamlessly from the series to this movie. They kept the timeline moving, and no chemistry was lost. The emotions are real and raw. They bring it all to the table in this one, just like they always do. Just when you think you have it figured out, there is another twist thrown in.

Whether you are new to the Jack Ryan world or elbow deep like me, I think you will enjoy this movie. It is so good. There is a reason it has been on the top 10 list since it came out. You can watch it on Prime Video (free with your Amazon Prime subscription)

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War Parents Guide

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is rated R for violence and language. It runs for 1hr 45m.

There is no end-credit scene for Ghost War.

Sex & Nudity –  0/5

  • Nothing

Violence & Gore – 3/5

  • For a CIA/Spy thriller movie, it has all the action and violence you would expect. Hand-to-hand combat, gun fights, car chases/crashes, explosions, assassinations, executions, etc. It shows blood, neck cuts, dead people, up close gunshots, knife wounds, and more.

Profanity – 3/5

  • Ass – 5+ uses
  • Shit – 26+ uses
  • Bit*h (SOB) – 1+ uses
  • Hell – 9+ uses
  • Damn – 14+ uses
  • Bast*rd – 2+ uses
  • Fu** – 33+ uses
  • Jesus/God (GD, JC, etc) – 40+

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 2/5

  • Vaping and smoking are shown throughout
  • Drinking/talk about alcohol here and there

Frightening & Intense Scenes – 3/5

  • The last 10 minutes are very intense
  • Most of the movie isn’t “intense” but a good steady thriller.

I am a long-time fan of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. I have watched all the old movies and read several of the books. But I will honestly tell you it wasn’t until John Krasinski picked up the Jack Ryan series in 2018 that I really fell in love with it. John is fantastic in the role of Jack Ryan. Add in Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November, and you have a fantastic trio that pulls you in and gives you all the feels. The supporting cast throughout all of the seasons, and into the Ghost War movie are all on point.

I will tell you that YES, there is a ton of language, and some nudity, and a lot of violence. So if those are the things keeping you from watching it, I highly recommend signing up for VidAngel. It does a fantastic job of filtering all the things you don’t want. We have ours set to filter language and nudity. And it works with most titles on Prime (including the Jack Reacher series, which I also love). If you aren’t sure if you will like it or not, you can sign up for a free month of VidAngel through this link.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is a great addition to the Jack Ryan series. I truly hope they continue making more movies – or make another season.

About Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War:

In this new film, Jack Ryan is reluctantly thrust back into the world of espionage when an international covert mission unravels a deadly conspiracy, forcing him to confront a rogue black-ops unit, and the clock is ticking. Operating in real time with lives on the line and the threat escalating at every turn, Jack reunites with battle-tested CIA operative Mike November (Michael Kelly) and former CIA boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce), their combined experience the only edge they have against an enemy who knows their every move.

Backed by an unlikely new partner – razor-sharp MI6 officer Emma Marlowe (Sienna Miller) – Jack and the team navigate a treacherous web of betrayal, facing a past they thought was long put to rest – making this the most personal, high-stakes mission any of them have ever faced.
