My wishes for my daughters

This post about wishes for my daughters is brought to you by Scholastic. All opinions are my own.

My family is the most important thing in this world to me. Having four kids is busy, but it’s also very fulfilling and satisfying. Three of those four kids are girls. I am raising all of my kids to be fierce, loyal, trustworthy, happy, reliable, and a million other things that we all want for our kids. They are still their own persons and make their own choices, but as parents, we have a great influence on them.

I recently got a beautiful book called My Wish for You by Kathryn Hahn, with illustrations by Brigette Barrager. It talks about how no matter who you are, you are enough. This can’t be said enough. YOU ARE ENOUGH! I tell my kids all the time to be happy with who they are. They are beautiful, strong, talented, and happy in so many ways, that you don’t need to worry over all of the things you aren’t. Focus on the things you are.

My girls do everything from ballroom dancing to playing softball, fishing, and digging for rocks, and they still love to dress up and be fancy. Let them experience everything so they know what they love. Do it with them and show them how amazing it can be. My kids teach me as much as I teach them. I love that we learn from each other and grow!

I would love to share wishes I have for my daughters (even though there are many more than what I’ve listed), and I hope you will follow suit and list at least one wish you have for your daughter, granddaughter, niece, friend, sister, etc.

My wishes for my daughters:

  • to be happy
  • to love and be loved
  • to always be able to find your smile
  • to uplift others
  • to never be afraid to be yourself
  • to be proud of yourself
  • to be proud of your family
  • to get messy
  • to laugh until your belly hurts
  • to find your style and own it
  • to be respectful
  • to find your voice
  • to show the world who you are
  • to travel and explore
  • to always be tender and caring
  • to work hard
  • to set goals and work until you reach them (then set some more)

Raising girls is hard work, especially for teenage girls. There is so much self-doubt, so many insecurities. Every chance I get, I am telling my girls as many good things as I can and reinforce them. Building up their self-esteem, their confidence, and their love so that they know they can be happy how they are and be loved. There are so many reasons I love this book. My Wish For You talks about the power that every girl has deep inside!

ABOUT MY WISH FOR YOU

Inspired by the everyday life lessons of raising her own six-year-old daughter, author, and actress Kathryn Hahn creates a heartfelt and touching meditation on the inherent power every girl has deep inside herself. Here is a timely and necessary message of the intrinsic importance of being who you are, no matter what the world tells you. To be curious, strong, and vulnerable. To live life on your own terms. To always look for that sparkle!

My Wish for You is an empowering gift for grandmothers and mothers, daughters and friends, to treasure and cherish for years to come.
