Disney Book Group is partnering with me for a giveaway! I love to read and it is even better when I get to read with my kids! It is always fun reading new books with them and one of our favorite series right now is the Disney VILLAINS book series by Serena Valentino. We are currently reading Mother Knows Best and my daughters and I are loving it! Serena is such a great storyteller and brings so much life and variety to these characters that we all look at as VILLAINS.

There are some parts that are a little intense and a little graphic, but I think that 8+ would be fine. My 11-year-old is loving the story! The characters bring on a whole new light, really changing your perspective and how things were before they became the “villain”. Tangled is one of our favorite movies, and reading a story about Gothel is really interesting and sets your imagination spinning.

The Disney VILLAINS series by Serena Valentino explores how the antagonists in Disney movies became some of storytelling’s most iconic villains. In the first five VILLAINS books, we see how the Evil Queen, the Beast, Ursula, Maleficent, and Mother Gothel fall into darkness, through the instigation of the mysterious Odd Sisters: Lucinda, Martha, and Ruby.

The tale of the legendary golden flower is widely known. The story has been told many times and in many ways. But always the flower is coveted by an old witch to keep herself young and beautiful. And always the flower is used to save a dying queen, who then gives birth to a princess with magical hair. Not willing to lose the flower, the old witch steals the princess and locks her away in a high tower, raising her as her own. But the princess always finds out who she truly is and manages to defeat the old witch.

And yet this is only half the story. So what of the old witch, Mother Gothel? Where does she come from? And how does she come across the magical golden flower?     I don’t know if I have a favorite villian, but the one I love most to hate is Mother Gothel from Tangled. Oh she makes me so mad!!!!

    Gaston.. because in the beginning you think he’s just a baboon, but then you see how evil he really is. Reminds me of several people I know

    I really like Tangled, and Mother Gothel. I think giving villains more back story, is awesome!

    Madam Dubois … the wicked step-mother in Cinderella! I always felt she was misunderstood, she knew her daughters couldn’t compete, but she only wanted the best for them!

    I always liked watching Little Mermaid as a little girl, so I’d have to go with Ursula as my favorite. I really like the songs and characters in that movie.

    I like Cruella de Ville because 101 Dalmations was the first Disney movie I remember watching as a kid.

    Maleficent is my favorite. She ended up being caring, even after all that happened to her.

    My favorite villain is a tough one. There’s so many awful ones. But I think one of my ones I like to hate the most is Hans from Frozen.
