Halloween Crafts for Kids – Monster, Ghost, and Pumpkin Jars

Halloween Crafts for Kids – Monster, Ghost, and Pumpkin Jars

It is that time of year again and I love it! Fall has always been my favorite (probably because my birthday is in October) but now my hubby’s and two of my kids’ birthdays are in October too – (so 4 of us) and it is like a month-long party with Halloween at the end to top it off! One thing I really enjoy doing are crafts – and Halloween crafts for kids are always fun!

Halloween and Christmas are the two favorites in our house so we like to do lots of Halloween Crafts for Kids and it takes some getting creative. Since my little one had baby food for many months – we have lots of leftover jars. They are the perfect size for crafts. This time we decided to make Monster, Ghost, and Pumpkin Jars with baby food jars, glitter, and craft paint.

The first thing I did, was painted around the “belly” and the rim of each jar – not the same color as you can tell in the picture – and let that dry. Instead of making the brush strokes smooth, I used the foam brush and patted the paint to give it a textured look. This also helped the paint go onto the glass better. I only did one coat so that the candlelight will still come through.

Once the paint dries, you will want to take Mod Podge and put a layer over the top of the paint. (don’t worry, it dries clear).

Once the whole thing is covered in a layer of Mod Podge you will take your glitter and sprinkle it over the top covering as much as you can. You can also roll it in glitter or the excess that falls off to get it good and solid. Once you have it covered in glitter, let it sit and dry overnight. Take a can of Clear Acrylic Sealer Spray and spray the whole jar (make sure you are done painting the whole jar top and bottom as well as done with the glitter and it has had time to dry). This will keep the glitter from flaking off.

When it is dry, you can take anything you like to decorate it. I wanted to be simple and I really liked these Halloween Metal Icons. They are raised off the surface a little allowing a floating effect.

When you have them all decorated and ready to go, you can put either a regular Tea light (you can get them at Dollar Tree or Walmart for cheap in large packs) or use the LED Tealight Candles that will be much less of a fire hazard and better for kids. (they last forever).

Overall this was a lot of fun. My kids enjoyed helping, especially because there was glitter involved lol. From start to finish the actual making of them took less than an hour. It took a couple of days to make all of them because of waiting for things to dry.

This jar does not have paint behind it. I did it to show you what it would look like if you just wanted to put the mod podge and glitter. It is a little more transparent for the candlelight to come through.

I hope you enjoyed this Halloween Crafts for Kids – Monster, Ghost, and Pumpkin Jars! Here are some more Halloween crafts we love:
