After several years of saying we want to go and not really making any definitive plans, we have finally decided to bite the bullet and plan a vacation to California this summer. There is so much to do, and so we have had to really narrow it down to what we think will be the biggest hits for our kids and go from there. We haven’t been there very often and so we are really relying on word of mouth and online research to guide our way.
Here is what have planned so far:
- Sea World
- LegoLand
- La Jolla Beach
- Disneyland
- Knotts Berry Farm
- Universal Studios
Visiting and playing in the ocean at several different beaches, and sightseeing some of the sites around L.A. and Hollywood will also be on our list. Of course going to Disneyland will be the biggest hit for the kids. I know they are so excited about all of it, but that is what they are mostly talking about. We got a free Disney vacation planning DVD in the mail not to long ago and it has been helpful as well as entertaining for the kids to watch.
Planning it all out is going to be a lot of fun. We have already sketched out a tentative schedule of events, travel time, and possible places to stay. With four kids, the packing is going to be crazy, but I know that they will want to bring along everything from their swim suits to the cute Disney costumes we found on MrCostumes.com for them to wear while we are at the Disneyland parks.

We are looking into the Southern California CityPass as well as the Go Select San Diego but still don’t know the “local” attractions. I would love any advice and tips you could share about visiting Southern California.

That’s amazing! How fun for you all! I have been wanting to do a Disney trip, but my husband wants to hold off until our son is a little older. He’s three, and I am just itching to take him to Disney, LegoLand, SeaWorld, Universal, etc. Maybe next summer- 4 might be the magic number! Hope you have a wonderful trip- you deserve it!
I have been to Disney land, Universal Studios and Knotts Berry Farm and it was a blast! You will have so much fun with your family, and everyone will remember this trip and the memories it will make for the rest of their lives.
Awesome! I haven’t been to Disneyland since I was five!
Hi, I am jealous! I’ve only been to Disney Paris, since I lived in the UK at the time. Now living in Spain, again Paris is the nearest/cheapest.
I love Disney and I hope you and your children have the vacation of a lifetime.
Great resource post
I have been to disney world but not disney land! I’m sure y’all are going to have so much fun! I’m a little jealous you will be going to lego land though. I’d love to do that! Thanks for sharing!
I live in Florida so I’ve been to Disney World a few times in my life. You and your kids will love it!! It truly is the happiest place on earth!!
