For all of my married life we have always had a pet during the holidays. We got a cat in August of 2003 – before we even had kids – and he has been an indoor only cat who has been spoiled rotten over the years. He has always had a stocking with his own treats and gifts, and this year is no exception. We got him a big 16oz container of the TEMPTATIONS® Treats for Christmas this year. He sniffed them out as soon we got them home and  so they didn’t quite make it to under the tree. He loved them. My 4 year old had so much fun giving him treats (we had to put the container up to make sure she didn’t feed him all of them at once, lol). To make it easier to give him the treats, and also for when we want to give our dog treats, we made DIY Drawstring Bags that are cute and perfect for keeping pet treats in. My kids also enlisted me to make these for them for their toys – so that will be another day 😉

For our dog we got PEDIGREE® DENTASTIX® Beef Flavor because he love chew treats and these are great for his teeth. He is as spoiled as our cat and the kids love to sneak him treats. At least I know that he is having treats that are good for oral care and I know that he loves. We also picked up a few packages of the PEDIGREE® Jumbone sticks because they keep him busy for a while and loves the taste. We love to get treats and toys for our cat and dog for Christmas – because it is fun for them to find something under the tree as well.

I also grabbed a TEMPTATIONS® Snacky Mouse for our cat for his stocking, to go with the TEMPTATIONS® Treats. He is going to have so much fun while we are all napping from a big breakfast and waking up early to open presents 😉

Ok – now to make the drawstring bag we just took a piece of canvas (the size depends on how big you want the bag. we did ours about 16 inches long by about 5 inches wide. To start you will fold the short edge of the material over about an inch or inch and a half. You will make two straight lines about 1/4 inch apart. (see the first picture above). The yarn will go between these to make the MarsTreats6drawstring. Do this on each of the short edges. Next you will take and fold the bag WRONG side out and sew the two edges down (sew from the bottom line you just made, so you don’t sew shut the openings where the draw sting goes). Once both sides are sewn, you will want to thread the drawstring. Take a yarn need and thread it with yarn, and then put the yarn in one way and thead it through both sides, ending with the string on the same side as you started. Clip them to an equal length. Next you will take more yarn and start on the OPPOSITE side that you started on last time and do the same thing – ending on the same side as you started the second string. Tie the ends of the strings together so they don’t slide out. I added a few cat brads to the front of the bag. It looks really cute and is easy and functional. Great for trips or for my kids to be able to spoil the kitty whenever they want.

We picked up the PEDIGREE® and TEMPTATIONS® treats at Walmart while we were there doing some Holiday shopping. They always have everything we need in one place. So nice when you have a heard of kids and don’t want to make a lot of stops! Be sure to look for them next time you are at the store.

The treat bag is a great idea! We have a big treat jar and our little dog has small treats and the kids have a hard time with the jar. This would be perfect for them to help give treats to her! (client)
