Last night we had the amazing opportunity to go and see the Cirque du Soleil OVO show. It was fantastic! The stunts, strength, balance and talents of the artists were just astounding. Combine that with the lights, props, sounds and colors to complete the scene. Then you add in the music – live music – for the perfect show. The violin was one of our favorite parts. My oldest daughter plays the violin and we loved watching him play. My favorite act of the show was the Butterflies. I am partial to butterflies and this act completely stole my breath away. It is so beautiful and sweet. My kids loved the butterflies as well. Another favorite of ours was Diablo (Firefly) who juggled. Very entertaining and very cool. There is so many amazing things about the show it is hard to describe them all. Cirque du Soliel OVO is definitely a must see!

Here is an overview of some of our favorites:

Butterflies (5)

DUO STRAPS ~ Butterflies Merging hand-to-hand, ballet and aerial contortion in an impressive flying act, this pair of Butterflies performs a pas-de-deux on aerial straps that allows them to swoop and land, leap and fly in perfect unison. Artists: Catherine AUDY (Canada), Alexis TRUDEL (Canada)

GRINGO CARDIA, CHANTAL TREMBLAY, DEBORAH COLKER, CHARLES JORON, LIZ VANDAL, BERNA CEPPAS, ERIC CHAMPOUX, JONATHAN DEANS, FRED GERARD, PHILIPPE AUBERTIN, JULIE BEGIN, BENOIT MATHIEU
GRINGO CARDIA, CHANTAL TREMBLAY, DEBORAH COLKER, CHARLES JORON, LIZ VANDAL, BERNA CEPPAS, ERIC CHAMPOUX, JONATHAN DEANS, FRED GERARD, PHILIPPE AUBERTIN, JULIE BEGIN, BENOIT MATHIEU

FOOT JUGGLING & ICARIAN GAMES ~ Ants The hardest working insects in the community are the bright red Ants. As soon as they’re awake they spend their day gathering food: On the menu today – kiwis and corn. But it’s not all work. They play with their food, too – with their feet – in an astonishing display of precision juggling that climaxes with ants juggling ants. Artists: CHENG Jinna (China), JI Wenbo (China), PEI Xin (China), SU Shan (China), WANG Shaohua (China), ZHU Baoyu (China).

Firefly_Diabolo

DIABOLO ~ Firefly In a mix of high-speed Diabolo and seemingly impossible juggling a firefly sends one, two, three and finally an astonishing four spinning spools arcing very high in the sky and back to earth in perfect coordination. Artist: Tony FREBOURG (France)

Cricket (1)

TRAMPO WALL ~ Crickets This act features a colony of crickets running, jumping, and walking across – and straight up – an 8m vertical wall without artificial support. Air track and trampolines give them the speed, lift and momentum to take flight. Their athletic ability, physical strength and team coordination takes care of the rest. Artists: Iurii FREIUK (Ukraine), Shaun GREGORY (UK), James JOHNSON (USA), Oleg KUZMIN (Russia), Tagir MURTAZAYEV(Russia), Yakau RAKITSKI (Belarus), Sergyi RYSENKO (Ukraine), Wei-Liang WU (China), Christoffer SOGAARD (Denmark), Jared SHELSTA (Canada), Mikhail KOSTIANOV (Russia)

GRINGO CARDIA, CHANTAL TREMBLAY, DEBORAH COLKER, CHARLES JORON, LIZ VANDAL, BERNA CEPPAS, ERIC CHAMPOUX, JONATHAN DEANS, FRED GERARD, PHILIPPE AUBERTIN, JULIE BEGIN, BENOIT MATHIEU

HANDBALANCING ~ Dragonfly A Dragonfly performs a graceful balancing act in and out of the slender stalks and twisting tendrils of an elegant plant. It takes extraordinary control and strength to transfer his weight from one hand to the other as he maintains equilibrium upside down on top of the foliage. Artist: Kyle CRAGLE (USA)

GRINGO CARDIA, CHANTAL TREMBLAY, DEBORAH COLKER, CHARLES JORON, LIZ VANDAL, BERNA CEPPAS, ERIC CHAMPOUX, JONATHAN DEANS, FRED GERARD, PHILIPPE AUBERTIN, JULIE BEGIN, BENOIT MATHIEU

The Foreigner is a fly in constant buzzing motion, a live wire, an attention seeker, full of bravado and misplaced confidence – and sometimes just plain crazy. The sexy spider doesn’t stand a chance of winning his heart when he sees The Ladybug for the first time. He’s instantly smitten! Artist: Jan DUTLER (Switzerland)

Master Flipo is the chief of the insect community, maybe because he’s the oldest. He’s smart and wise – but eccentric too, and he’s very silly sometimes. The whole community respects and likes him even though they know he can be a bit dim-witted. Artist: Gonzalo MUNOZ FERRER (Columbia)

The Ladybug is big and strong (but doesn’t realize it) and full of life. Unlike all the other insects in the community she is not part of a family. She’s all alone and lonely, and she’s secretly waiting for something wonderful to happen in her life… something like love. When The Foreigner arrives carrying a strange egg she’s excited by the possibility that her life – and everyone else’s – could be about to change. Artist: Neiva NASCIMENTO (BRAZIL)

Scarabs (1)

RUSSIAN CRADLE ~ Scarabs In a stunning aerial act, a group of scarabs soar high above the stage, from both edges to the middle. A distance of 6 meters separates the catchers! Artists: Nansy DAMIANOVA (Canada), Denys DYKY (Ukraine), Volodymyr FEDYNA (Ukraine), Alexander GROL (Russia), Nina KARTSEVA (Russia), Volodymyr KLAVDICH (Ukraine), Camille SANTERRE-GERVAIS (Canada), Maryna SERGIIENKO (Ukraine), Dmytro RYBKIN ( Ukraine), Olga SHCHERBATYKH (Ukraine), Inna TESLENKO (Ukraine), Timur UTYASHEV (Russia)

GRINGO CARDIA, CHANTAL TREMBLAY, DEBORAH COLKER, CHARLES JORON, LIZ VANDAL, BERNA CEPPAS, ERIC CHAMPOUX, JONATHAN DEANS, FRED GERARD, PHILIPPE AUBERTIN, JULIE BEGIN, BENOIT MATHIEU

WEB ~ Spiders The funny spiders reveal their sensual side when they attract the attention of a group of Crickets Near their web. One bright, dazzling spider contortionist casts a sensual spell of her own performing mind bending tricks. Artists: Ariunsanaa BATAA (Mongolia), Alanna BAKER (UK), Aurélie Deroux-Dauphin (France)

The OVO storyline is fun and energetic. The creative and talented crew bring the story to life. You will laugh, smile, cheer and be enthralled by the whole performance, over and over again with each new display of talent. From contortionism to juggling, you will be in awe.

Coralie, I want to thank-you so much for the tickets I won to Cirque du Soleil OVO. It was an amazing experience. I took my 3 grandchildren and they were mesmerized. This is not something that I normally could afford to treat my family to so thanks again for the wonderful opportunity.

What an amazing experience! I have always wanted to see a show by Cirque du Soliel but I never got the chance. The Ovo show looks like a great story for children, that entertains the entire family as well.

I love Cique du Soleil – the acrobats are always so graceful and the stunts are awesome. Not heard of this OVO version with the insects though – I love butterflies too so can imagine that one would be great!

Their suit was extraordinary. It’s so brilliantly made and it looks like a real one that they came from a wonderland of far away land. Hope we can see this show too.
