14 Days to an Easy Thanksgiving - Day 5: Plates, Silverware, and Glasses

Thanksgiving is a great time of year, no doubt. For those of us who are in charge or are being hosts, it can get a little stressful and overwhelming. This series is 14 days to an easy Thanksgiving and it will walk you through the 14 days before Thanksgiving and what you can do to get ready each day, just a little project or task that will make your Thanksgiving day EASY! Most of the things are great family time ideas and things your kids can help with too!

This is a fun part of your preparing for Thanksgiving! There are a few options here to consider:

  1. Will you have a big crowd or a small group?
  2. Will there be small children?
  3. Do you have what you need or do you need to borrow or buy more place settings?

If you are going to have a big crowd, you may want to just use paper items and plastic utensils to avoid a lot of dishes afterwards.

If there will be a small group, I suggest using real dishes and getting out the best ones you have. This will be a great opportunity for you to show off that nice dish set you never get to use! Pull it out, clean it up and start getting it ready.

If you are going to have small children, I recommend having plastic or paper table settings for them. I can’t tell you how many times my kid’s (empty and full) plates have ended up on the floor for one reason or another. Just be aware of this as you make your place setting plans.

You have figured out how many kids and adults will be there (on day 1) , you have already figured out where they will be sitting (or at least HOW they will be sitting) (on day 3) and so you can get your silverware and plates and cups ready. If you have a lot it might take few days to get them all wash and you don’t want to be rushing at the last minute to get it done. 🙂

What tips do you have for trying to decide what to use to eat on Thanksgiving?

We haven’t hosted a Thanksgiving in a while, but when we did we always used our normal place settings. I have an old set of China, but I like that my regular dishes have so many coordiating serving dishes.

Thanks for sharing these tips! My mom and I were just talking about what we were going to do for the family for Thanksgiving this year. These plates and glasses look beautiful!

Thank you for the tips! I always consider the number of people who will be there. I have at most 4 people at my dinner and this year there will only be two, so it simplifies things a bit for me. I get to use the “good” wine glasses and I can spend more time on decorations and set-up 🙂
