DIY: Hanging Lantern Glass Jars
I have been collection jars from the bottled food we buy for quite a while (in fact I think my kids are about ready to put me in one, lol, there are so many in our pantry) but I really love glass jars, and we use them all the time. I have always wanted to do hanging jars around our backyard but we don’t have any really big trees yet and we ripped out our big deck to put a smaller one in so there is really no where to hang them. I think that they would be cute on our wooden fence, or even on sticks.
Making the jars was easy enough. I just took a few jars from my collection, and put stickers on them. Then I took them outside and spray painted each one. I used three different kinds of spray paint – and honestly the one I like the most was the Krylon indoor/outdoor. It went on better and was easier to use.
After spraying the jars, I let them sit for about 20 minutes in the sun to dry (beware – if you use black – it gets hot, lol)
After they dried I took this and peeled all of the stickers off. This didn’t take long and I really didn’t have any problems with them coming off.
As you can see, I probably should have done two coats of paint – so note to self for my next round – but I still think they turned out cute – especially “in the day light” they look great. To make them hanging – I just took some craft wire and wrapped it around the “lip” of the jar and wrapped it around itself to secure it.
These are so cute! I especially love the flower design.
Thanks Michelle. That is my favorite one 🙂
So nice! I love these!
