Disney-Pixar Lightyear Parents Guide

I was able to attend a screening in order to write this Disney-Pixar Lightyear parents guide. All opinions are my own.

I have always loved Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies. He is a great character who brings a lot of life to every movie he is in. Lightyear is no exception. Lightyear is a great origin story that sheds a whole new light on his character and thinking. Being an elite Space Ranger gives him a lot of determination. This leads him to persevere and do what he can to “finish the mission”. It also introduces a few new characters such as Sox (his robotic cat), and (both) Hawthornes as well as Mo Morrison and Darby Steel.

The movie kicks off and gets right into the action. The storyline, while intriguing and engaging, was easy to follow which is great for kids. Chris Evans does an incredible job as the voice of Buzz. It also gives us more info and history about Zurg which has always been a big part of the early Toy Story movies.

I will admit my favorite character in the movie is probably Sox. He does so many unexpected and funny things that it really adds a lot of light elements to the movie and laughs that keep it going. This is one you will want to take your family to. And then your kids will ask to go see it again and again lol. You can shop the Lightyear store on Amazon for great toys and gifts!

Watching it on the IMAX always makes it so much more fun! I highly recommend it if you can! Check out where it is playing and get your tickets here: https://movies.disney.com/lightyear

Disney-Pixar Lightyear Parents Guide

Disney-Pixar Lightyear is rated PG for action and peril. It runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes.

There are 3 mid and end-credit scenes for Disney-Pixar Lightyear.

Sex, Nudity, –  0/10 – It does show a quick clip of a same-gender couple kissing. Also talks about their relationship.

Violence & Gore – 3/10 – The “aliens” getting killed with laser guns, bombs, etc. Robots are getting damaged. Soldiers chasing characters.

Profanity – 1/10 – One-half use of God.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking – 0/10 – None

Frightening & Intense Scenes – 3/10 – Some of the fight scenes may be frightening or intense. There are a couple of jump scares. It shows a damaged (old and worn out) Sox cat that’s a little creepy.

Overall the movie is great for ALL ages. I think everyone will love it. It is right in line with the action, adventure, and other elements of the Toy Story movies, so if your kids have seen those, this will be just fine.

Disney-Pixar Lightyear releases in U.S. theaters on June 17, 2022.

About Disney-Pixar Lightyear:

The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew.

As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

Disney-Pixar Lightyear releases in U.S. theaters on June 17, 2022.
