ChordBuddy Jr. Kids Guitar Review

We have been wanting to teach our kids how to use the guitar for a long time. My husband (Clint) has been playing for years and years and is very good and has tried teaching our kidlets how to play. I learned (self-taught) a few chords here and there but nothing I could pass on to my kids. Getting to the point where we needed to try something different, we heard about the ChordBuddy and so I checked it out.

I was impressed by how easy it looked for kids to pick up the ChordBuddy guitar and just start playing it. Building their confidence and getting a hang of the rhythm were important starting factors. When we got the guitar, I couldn’t wait to get it out and try it for myself. My husband (who has played the guitar for many years) helped me tune it with the very cool tuner that came with the guitar. Once that was done I grabbed the book that was included and picked a song and played it without any trouble. It was a really cool feeling – HEY, I am actually doing this! – lol. I knew this would be perfect to help our kids get started on their musical journey!

We set our six year old up with the guitar – showed her the book and how it worked by matching the lines with how many strums you play and the colors with which button to push, and she took off. As you can see in the video below, by the end of the first song she didn’t even need help anymore. It was really fun to see her confidence grow and her skills improve as she played and as that continues then we can take the ChordBuddy off and she can learn the notes. But for right now this is exactly what she needs to get started and I am loving it as much as she is.

We have had to tune it almost every time we play it – but my husband said that it is normal for a new guitar to have to be tuned a lot because the strings are stretching. It will get to the point soon that it won’t have to be tuned unless it gets bumped or it sits for an extended amount of time. The guitar itself is very nice, high quality and plays beautifully. Everything is sealed and the same quality as a nice “full size” guitar. I am really impressed with the whole setup. There is even an instructional DVD that gives you an overview of the guitar, how to play it, even walks you through things.

Overall we give it a 5 out of 5. We really love it and our kids love it and have been able to pick up the guitar in a matter of minutes where it was almost impossible before. You can learn more about ChordBuddy and get one for you or your kids at:
