We were able to go to a prescreening. All opinions are my own.

OUR MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL REVIEW

Yesterday I was able to take my family to a pre-screening of Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (Maleficent 2). First off, I have to tell you that I LOVE the first one – Maleficent. Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) and Elle Fanning (Aurora) have such great chemistry. That carries through to the second one, even more. Add-in Harris Dickinson as Prince Phillip, Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith and the many other amazing characters they introduced in this film and it makes for an amazing movie.

I feel like the film has a strong storyline, picking up 5 years after Maleficent. Aurora is the Queen of the Moores and still in love with Prince Phillip. They become engaged and the movie flows from there. You learn more about Maleficent’s background and get to know Aurora, Phillip, and his family.

My whole family loves this movie, and if you are a fan of the first one, I am sure you will enjoy it too. There are some great tie-it’s to the cartoon-like the dress changing colors, the dad under the sleeping spell, and the “dragon”. I would love to see what else you find. Leave a comment below letting us know.

Also, be sure to check out our interviews with Angelina Jolie, Sam Riley, Elle Fanning and many more about our trip to L.A. for Disney’s Maleficent release!

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE MOVIE:

  • FIGHTING: 7/10 – While there is a lot of fighting, even scenes showing graphic violence, there isn’t a lot of blood or gore.
  • LANGUAGE/SEX: 2/10 – A pretty clean movie as far as language. A couple of Maleficent’s outfits are a little risque, but that is about the extent.
  • ALCOHOL: 1/10 – Some of the characters have drinks in the film but it is not the forefront of the scene.

RECOMMENDED AGES FOR VIEWING:

I would say 8 and up for this. There is a lot of chaos, fighting, some emotional scenes, and death. Not to give anything away – but the movie does end on a positive note. If your younger kids are sensitive, I would say maybe even 10. Make sure they watch the first one before going to see this one. It will make way more sense.

ABOUT MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL

In Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies, and dark new forces at play.

The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora’s impending marriage to Prince Philip is cause for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors, as the wedding serves to unite the two worlds.

When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.
