Recently I had the fun opportunity to test drive the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring for a week. This car is built for fun. With a standard transmission and seating for two you will be able to cruise wherever you want to go. It gets up to 36 HWY MPG and is packed with 155 horsepower. The transmission is 6 speed so the pick up is quick and it is extremely well balanced with the rear wheel drive. The look and feel of the car is leaps and bounds above any other in its class. And you can’t forget about the convertible part – who doesn’t love driving around with the top down?

The new  bodydesign of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 distinguishes it as much as anything else. Everyone we showed the car to, did a double take and said “that’s a Miata?”. It is sleek, stylish and smooth. I loved looking at it as much as I did driving it. The kids loved it because I would pick them up from school in the Mazda Miata since they get out at different times (remember it is a two-seater) and their friends would literally get excited and saying things like “look at Hunter’s car” 🙂 To get kids excited you know it’s cool – the larger and older kids (like my hubby 😉 ) also loved the design of the car. I told everyone I felt like James Bond driving it around for the week :).

The inside of the car (dash, wheel, controls, etc) are very similar to the other 2016 Mazdas. The large screen with the navigation, music, communication and other features as well as the air controls are all convenient. Despite how small the car is, the interior is roomy and I didn’t feel claustrophobia at all.  There is also a decent size trunk considering it is a 2-seater convertible. The car is build on SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY so the new MX-5 is 148 lbs. lighter than the previous generation of Miata’s.  Overall this car is super fun to drive and performs as good as it looks! Go take one for a test drive and see for yourself!
