5 tips for safe winter travel #MySnowCast

We love traveling, but it can be hard in the winter months – especially in Utah – because we tend to get a lot of snow. In the past we have used a few websites to check for weather but they haven’t always been accurate and so we have ended up in a really bad snow storm while trying to travel somewhere and it was not fun. 5 tips for safe winter travel:

1. Always plan ahead – know where you are going, what the weather is going to be like and make sure you keep checking up until you leave. The SnowCast app is a great resource for me because I can just check right on my phone while I am getting other things done. (Download the app)
2. Drive a vehicle with good tires and 4WD. If you know you will be traveling in inclement weather, 4WD and good tires will make all the difference.
3. Take a car emergency kit with you. Make sure you have food, water, blankets, a change of clothes, TP, and other essentials in case you have to stop and wait out a storm. Especially if you have kids in the car.
4. Know the route you are traveling and make alternative plans in case they are needed. If you need to stop before planned or other issues arise, then you will be prepared.
5. Drive safely. Pay attention to road conditions and don’t drive too fast. Also make sure that if you have to drive in inclement weather that you are patient and alert.

Now we can plan our trips better and not have to worry about a bad weather report because we were able to get accurate information about how many inches of snow will fall in our location now, later in the day or over the next 48 hours. We can plug in any address or location and it will tell us. It is also nice in letting us plan things around town like grocery shopping, date nights, etc. I even like to use it to see when is the best time to shovel the driveway (nobody likes doing that multiple times from one storm). If you commute to your job, then you will also love this because you will know the best times to travel and how much time you need to get where you are going. If you would like, it will also do push notifications so you know when and how much snow is coming. It uses NOAA winter weather warnings and advisories so you can have the best information. It is very easy to install – and there is no complex set-up. I also love that is it simple to run and is fast. I would love to see saved locations in the future, but it is a great app that we love and has come in very handy so far. I can use it on our iPad and iPhone which is nice.
