Last night, my husband and I were able to go to a prescreening of Mirror Mirror. The movie started off with The Queen (played by Julia Roberts) narrating an overview about everything leading up to the point of where the movie actually “starts”. The beginning is mostly animated. It doesn’t waste anytime getting into the action of the movie. I didn’t feel like there was a lull or “slow” part to it at all. It was pretty entertaining and I laughed several times throughout the movie. There are a few tender moments as well. I felt like it didn’t follow the traditional story of Snow White at all. There were bits and pieces of it weaved in and out of the movie, but it was more like a Snow White meets Robin Hood meets Alice in Wonderland. Very interesting twists and turns. It kept me entertained. There was a little bit of action (fighting, etc) but nothing compared to say, John Carter. Armie Hammer and Lily Collins did good as the prince and Snow White.
I am glad I didn’t have my kids. I don’t think my four-year old or two-year old would have sat through it. I know my seven-year old would have loved it. There were not any inappropriate parts (sexuality, violence, language, etc) that I would have felt like she couldn’t see.
The only thing I thought was a little frustrating was that they didn’t use the same names for the dwarfs. But they don’t use the names all that much throughout the movie, so it wasn’t a big deal.
Overall, I would recommend seeing Mirror Mirror. The acting was great, the set/props/effects, etc were all awesome and I felt like it was very “Fairy Tale” styled. Great Movie! I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars! Very magical, enchanting, and full of fantasy filled fun!
